University of South Wales

ales Newport University can trace its roots back to 1841 and today attracts students from all over the world.

It has a long tradition of providing high quality undergraduate, postgraduate and professional courses.  They have well-qualified and experienced academic and support staff who care about all students and indeed the Quality Assurance Agency gave the University a ‘confidence’ rating (the top rating given) for the quality of its academic teaching standards.  The courses are modern, challenging, innovative, creative and relevant to the needs of the 21st Century.

The University is internationally recognized and renowned for many of its highly advanced facilities.  It has some of the best-equipped, fully serviced workshops and studios in Europe.

The University has two campuses at Caerleon and in Newport city centre.

The University opened a new £35 million campus in Newport's City Centre formally on 10 January 2011. The project is a collaboration between the University, Newport City Council and the Welsh Assembly Government operating through Newport Unlimited, the urban regeneration company for the City.

The campus is situated on the banks of the River Usk in the City Centre and is the first phase of an intended £50m development for the University. It houses the Faculty of Arts and Business whilst the Caerleon Campus houses the Faculty of Education and Social Sciences. The campus is part of a major redevelopment of Newport's City Centre which will see significant improvement in the area.

The City
Coming to study at Newport is far more than just place to learn.  It's a place that combines top class learning with an extensive range of social activities, without the need to even travel off campus.  Whether you're looking for sporting activities, chilling out in the Students' Union Bar or just the opportunity to meet new people, you will feel the campus buzz.

The campuses are at the centre of a close knit community with a vibrant atmosphere in which you will soon feel part of.  Here you won’t just feel like a student number or yet another face in the crowd but instead will feel connected and will always recognize a friendly face.

Newport is proud to have a strong and growing local economy. Combined with having a lower cost of living, it is one of the main reasons why such a high percentage of our students decide to stay within the Newport area after completing their studies at the University.
